The Johnny Barker Band is the culmination of over 40 years of being a music professional for Johnny Barker, who started his music career with The Catalinas from Charlotte in 1964. It was with the Catalinas that he wrote the beach music classic, “Summertime’s Callin’ Me”, one of the songs credited with changing beach music to what is known as today. Pete Smolin,co- founder of Ripete Records, credits this song as being one of the reasons he started his record company in the early 80s. Following The Catalinas was 11 years with Raleigh’s Embers, then 14 years with The Entertainers, then Legends of Beach in 2007.

2013  was the year that it all comes together for JBB. In addition to starting his own band, Johnny Barker was inducted into the NC Music Hall of Fame  on October 17, 2013. This is in addition to becoming a member of The Beach Music Hall of Fame in 2003.
Well known for his arranging & production of many beach music hits, JB takes that expertise to the stage with an all-star lineup of professionals well known throughout the Southeast.

JBB’s songlist is a timeline of popular songs from his career beginning in the 1960's into the 70's & 80's, right up to some of today’s music. Styles include beach, rhythm & blues, funk, rock & a little country, all designed the keep the crowd moving. You might even hear some Sinatra &  Buble in the mix. Bookmark JBB’s website at www.thejohnnybarkerband.com.

New Years Eve at 2001 featured The Johnny Barker Project. This is an extremely talented band. But knowing about their background, this is no surprise to me. They kept the dance floor full all night. They are definitely one of the bright spots on the beach music scene. I'll see you at Ducks on Feb 22 and whenever possible around the beach areas.
